Visits: instruction manual

Like almost 4500 visitors a year – school pupils, students, teachers and individual visitors – come and visit SOLEIL and meet our teams: a customised programme with talks, hands-on workshops, visits to the site or themed discussions.

To prepare your visit, please take note of the information below (types of visit, admission conditions and reservations).

For the General Public

DURATION: 2 hours

Presentation of the history, operations and applications of the SOLEIL synchrotron

A visit to the synchrotron to explore the different installations.


 

School groups (ages 13 and over)

DURATION: 2 hours

Secondary Schools (ages 13 to 15)

A fun presentation based on the applications of the SOLEIL synchrotron

A visit to the synchrotron to explore the learning workshops

SOLEIL Pursuit – Duration: 2 hrs 30 mins

“Special investigation” in small groups with films and workshop-challenges with infra red, UV and X-rays, waves and matter, plus a reporters' writing workshop.

Please note: SOLEIL Pursuit is only on offer for 3 weeks a year. (Upcoming dates)

Secondary Schools (ages 16 to 18)

DURATION: 2 hrs 30 mins

VISITS TO THE SOLEIL SYNCHROTRON ARE
  • free
  • authorised for ages 12 and over 
  • from Tuesday to Thursday, depending on available time slots 
  • reserved for groups (between 10 and 30 people)
  • for groups of fewer than 10 people, we will try to join you to another group
  • people with pacemakers are not admitted (presence of operational magnets) 
RESERVATIONS

After you make your request, you will receive a reply within ten days with a date for your visit. You will be given a reservation form, to be completed and returned to us by e-mail.

The list of visitors' first and last names, as well as the completed form, must be sent to us as soon as possible and at the latest two days before your visit.

VISITING SOLEIL

A car park is available for visitors.

All visits begin at the reception pavilion at the site entrance.
