One day at SOLEIL with the school inspectors of the academy of Versailles

After each school holidays IA-IPR from the academy of Versailles gather for a working and thinking day. On 28th April 2014, the College of Schools Inspectors from the Academy of Versailles took place at SOLEIL synchrotron, which research fields are reflecting the disciplines represented in the assembly, from Plastic Arts to Sciences, History, Geography or Literature.

Philippe Fontaine, in charge of SIRIUS, is giving some explanations to his audience in front of the beamline optical hutch.

After a warm welcome from Jean Daillant, Director-General of the synchrotron, the day opened with a presentation of the research performed at SOLEIL, and the pedagogic action related. This welcome and presentation- explaining notably how synchrotron radiation is produced- were particularly appreciated, considering the feedbacks of the Inspectors who were very sensitive to the accordance with their own disciplines.

After this introduction under the aegis of Dean Ms. Marie-Françoise Chavanne and assistant Dean M. Jean-Luc Mourier, inspectors met in a working seminar. The day ended with a visit of the synchrotron, during which several beamlines were shown: LUCIA, PROXIMA1, SAMBA or SIRIUS. Participants could discuss with passionate and good-teachers scientists, still according to feedbacks.

IA-IPR*: School Inspector-Pedagogical and Regional Inspectors. They are involved both in disciplinary cases from College to High school, and on transversal cases linked to the Education Policy at all scholar levels.
