On 24th June, SOLEIL welcomed three students from the Douanier Rousseau High school in Laval. The three of them were the laureates of the 21st edition of the “Olympiades de Physique” which took place at the Palais de la Découverte on 8th February.
Through this day, they were given a presentation of the synchrotron and its applications, and then visited the building and talked with scientists on the SMIS beamline.
The students were accompanied by the teacher who led them all across this wonderful adventure. After they succeeded the first regional selection with flying colors, their work managed to catch the attention of a national jury on the questioning: “How to make a microscope blade sing?”
The Olympiades de Physique France is an experimental scientific competition rather oriented on physics and intended for high school students mentored by their teacher. It aims at raising students’ awareness of scientific activities by making them real actors, awaking their scientific vocation, and teaching them how to communicate their results and approach.
