This value fulfills the specifications in terms of maximum beam current of the Technical Design Report of SOLEIL. This current will be offered to the users on a regular basis starting in 2016.
Storing 500 mA while keeping the same stability and reliability as for the present beam of 450 mA (98.8% over one week) can be done due to the long-term involvement of several groups. Especially the Diagnostics, RF-Linac, Operation, Power Supplies and Pulsed Magnets, Safety, and Accelerator Physics groups have been involved in the specification and the upgrade of equipment. This allows a fine control of the electron charges produced by the injector (Linac and Booster) while preventing the storage ring current from exceeding 505 mA (maximum legal value).
